Seniors' Notice

Dear Parents/Caregivers

 

Family Afternoon

We are holding a family afternoon on Sunday 19th September at Knox Church.  We are commissioning two leaders and the kids will present items to entertain family.  We will start at 4pm followed by Pot Luck Tea at about 5pm.


Change of venue 

On Monday the 11th October we will be having Girls Brigade at the same time but at a different venue. The venue is 

Epuni Baptist Church

Lower Hutt


Fun Night

Seniors are holding “Bring a Friend Night” on the Monday 20th September

You can dress up in your favourite colour and have fun.

We will do some games and a fun craft.

 

Senior Camp

Registration forms will be out soon.

Juniors' Term 3 Notice

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Juniors start at 5.45pm, please have your daughter at the hall on time. Juniors finish at 6.45pm, please come into the hall to collect your daughter. 

Programme this Term

19 July: We are starting the term with a fun night of baking and banana splits.

26 July: Fun with Newspaper – can you please bring along newspaper as much as you can

2 August: Jewellery making

9 August: Hat fun – decorating the hats we used last term

16 August: our topic is Elderly

23 August: Visit to a rest home, Woburn Masonic (more details below)

30 August: Fathers day fun and Bring a friend night

6 September: Topic is Elderly

13 September: Tissue paper craft fun

20 September: Hoping to have a visit from a fire man and a Fire engine (TBC)

 

NOTES:

On the 23 August we are going to visit the elderly at Woburn Masonic rest home as part of our topic on Elderly. We will be meeting at the rest home at 5.40pm and then the girls will be brought back to the hall for games. We will need some parents to stay and help transport back to the hall.  We will be staying at the rest home for no more than half an hour. Please fill in and return the permission slip attached.

Fees

The fees for 2010 are now due if you have not paid them yet please do so. 

1 girl               -           $90

2 girls             -           $160 ($80 per girl)

3 girls             -           $210 ($70 per girl)

 

Leaders

We are always looking for new leaders, helpers or parents that can help with badge work, come up with new ideas. Please talk to me about how you can help, or the time involved. In juniors each badge subject runs for three weeks.

Term 2 Newsletter

Fees

Thanks to those who have paid fees.  Please remember fees are now due and you should have received an invoice.   Please discuss with a leader if you are having issue paying the fees.

Biscuits

Thank you for supporting the company by selling the biscuits.  If you have not paid for the biscuits, please return money and outstanding biscuits by Monday 10th May.

Sausage Sizzle

We are planning a sausage sizzle at Petone Mega Mitre 10 on Saturday 29th May.  We would appreciate support to man the sausage sizzle.  A roster will be available at GB to put your name down.  Please speak to one of the Leaders.

The cost of sash is $5 available from the GB Company.  We highly encourage girls to buy the sash, it is used to display their badges.

The cost of the Tee Shirt and Polo is about $100 per girl.  This cost is to be covered by the parents / caregivers.

We have some second hand uniforms in stock.  Check with a leader if your size is available.

When your girl grows out of the current uniform or change section.  The company will sell your uniform on your behalf.

We will place an order with Postie Plus by the end of May.  We need your girls size and requirement with money by Monday 24th May.

Term 2 begins!

Term 2 has begun and all groups are starting their new badgework activities. 

The Juniors are learning about healthy eating, and put together artwork based around the bottom two tiers of the food pyramid.

The Pioneers are preparing for new bible study sessions for their Spiritual badge.

Programme and Awards

Our programme is based on Luke 2: 52 which encourages girls to meet the aim and motto of Girls’ Brigade.
Luke 2: 52 - “Jesus grew both in body and in wisdom, gaining favour with God and men.”

Some examples of the programme are:
Physical (body) - Athletics, Jogging, Walking, Canoeing, Orienteering, Self Defence, Camping
Educational (wisdom) - Computer skills, Cooking, Crafts, Pet care, First Aid, Home maintenance, Gardening
Spiritual (God) - Candlemaking, clowning, getting to know the Bible, Missions, Puppetry, Drama, Personal Bible Study
Social (man) - Defence, Disability awareness, Service in the Home, Church, Community and the World, My Friend the Elderly.

Age groupings and Awards
Girls must complete subjects from each of the four sections mentioned above to receive their Award each year.

Juniors - are aged 5 – 8 years inclusive and earn Blue, Green, Red or Gold Stars each year for their work.

Seniors - are 9 – 12 years inclusive, and they earn circles with blue, green, red or gold centres.

Pioneers - earn blue, green, red and gold triangles and their Brigader Brooch, which is the highest National Award in GB.

Brigader Brooch Requirements:
- Earn four triangles.
- 48 hours community service
- 6 weeks Company Service
- Attend 4 Pioneer Events
- Learn about National & International GB (Level 3 & 4 Awards)
- Earn at least one gold service bar
- Attend a two night residential camp

Service Awards:
Each year girls are able to earn two Service Awards.
Blue - is for GB attendance/or completion of GB work through the Satellite Company.
Gold - is for Church attendance or involvement in a Christian Education programme.

What GB can offer
- Relevant programmes of activities for girls, which challenge and develop each individual girl’s talents.
- Our programme is Christian based and offers spiritual teachings.
- Leadership training opportunities for girls 14 years and over with our nationally run courses.
- Encourage community service through our programme, also through encouraging the girls to become involved with The Young New Zealanders’ Challenge Award – The Duke of Edinburgh, and our highest International Award – the Queen’s Award.
- Camps and events for girls from which many friendships are formed, locally, nationally and internationally.
- Contact with families, many of who have no Church affiliations.

As with all Youth Organisations, there is a membership fee and uniform costs.
